The fog parted as we made our way into Blackfish Sound, unveiling the beautiful surrounding islands and distant mountain tops. Silence was broken as a large humpback whale performed dramatic cartwheels and flamboyant tail-slaps as we passed by on our pursuit of orcas, closely followed by a bombardment of Dall's porpoises racing and darting in front of the bow of the SV Tuan, delighting everyone onboard. As the fog cleared we got our first sighting of the orcas, a large male foraging along the shore while his mother (matriarch A12) chased salmon in the deeper water of the Strait. The remainder of the voyage was spent traveling alongside the pair of resident orcas as they made their way along the coast in search of fish, providing fantastic photo opportunities for those onboard!
