Today was a great day out on the water. Our sightings today included Stellar Sea Lions, Dall’s Porpoises, Harbour Seals, Rhinoceros Auklets, Red-necked Phalaropes, Common Murres, Pigeon Guillemots, Belted Kingfishers, Mew Gulls, Bald Eagles and an Eaglet in the nest. The highlight of the tour was the early morning sighting of ‘Freckles’ a Humpback Whale who seemed elusive at our first encounter and was observed taking long dives and then disappeared, traveling through a narrow waterway among the Plumper Islands to re-emerge out in the Queen Charlotte Strait. It was at this time that we noticed the whale to be breaching out of the water, a total of 12 breaches were counted! There was a lot of bird activity feeding on herring balls and krill indicating more food moving into the area. It was a wonderful day for all onboard.
