This morning we began our tour cruising first through Pearse Passage and then Cormorant Channel sighting several humpback whales en route as we made our way towards Blackfish Sound where transient orcas were reported travelling slowly west along the Hanson Island shoreline. The three orcas had already been identified as the T10’s, they were moving steadily, taking long dives as is usual for transient orcas but as they went by us at one point, we observed several stellar sea lions swimming in the water and waited until the orcas surfaced a distance away, they were not interested in hunting and carried on. With a light NW wind blowing we enjoyed time sailing in Weynton Passage with the orcas and as they moved on to the west we continued sailing in Weynton Passage where four or more humpback whales continued to feed, circling back and forth as we sailed along. The viewing was fabulous and with the sun shinning bright, it was an incredibly beautiful and relaxing day for all on board. Other sightings included: harbour seals, rhinoceros auklets, common murre, red-necked phalaropes++, california, mew and glaucous-winged gulls, bald eagles, belted kingfishers and great blue herons.
