Good news for Bears on a Bile Farm in China ~ your help is needed more than ever!

Further to the blog I wrote the other day about Bears and my poem 'Caged' I have received an email from Laetitia with further good news and a personal note to her from Jill Robinson the Founder of Animals Asia. Laetitia ends her email to me: I leave you for today with Jills words:

Hi there Laetitia, so nice to hear from you again - and to catch up on your latest adventure with Maureen and Seasmoke. She sounds a fantastic girl, with a wonderful, ethical organisation for the whales, and I love her poem "Caged".

Thank you for spreading the word about our beautiful bears as you do - we've just embarked on a rather critical, not to mention challenging and exciting - new project, converting a bear bile farm in China to a sanctuary, after the farmer was brave enough to say that publicly that he was leaving the industry because it was both "cruel and hopeless".

I am re-blogging as this news is good as it might also be the start of the tipping point for a change in heart by the Chinese in their Bile Farming practices of Bears in China.

I have taken the posting and photo's below directly from the Animals Asia Organization Face-book and all photo credits go to them with my heartfelt gratitude for the remarkable work that they are doing for animals across Asia.

Face-book posting by Animals Asia:

Peace by piece is the largest rescue of its kind ever undertaken. We need YOUR HELP NOW to help over 130 bears go from farm to freedom. Peace by piece is the largest rescue of its kind ever undertaken.

Peace by Piece is Animals Asia's new landmark campaign to help rescue and rehabilitate over 130 moon bears in Nanning, China. These bears have been kept in horrendous conditions – many trapped in tiny cages from birth - and farmed for their bile.

Some of the 41 female bears could be pregnant with up to four cubs.

The farmer had bred the bears and extracted their bile for years, but had a change of heart when his daughter convinced him of the horrible cruelty of the trade. Animals Asia is taking over custody and care of the bears, leasing the land and facilities.

This will be the largest rescue of its kind in the world.

We now need your help to turn this farm into a home - peace by piece!

Not only will we turn this bile farm into a comfortable home for the bears, we will create a sanctuary AND education centre. By uniquely working with the Chinese Government, we will also ensure that this new sanctuary will provide meaningful jobs to the nine existing farm workers. We will retrain them to become skilled bear carers, at this new groundbreaking sanctuary. So, this isn't just a bear rescue, it's a landmark initiative to help change the hearts and minds of other farmers in the region.

Because of the size and scale of this rescue, we need your support more than ever before. Your donation will help fund the renovation of the farm as well as the veterinary care these bears urgently need and the equipment and structures needed for their rehabilitation. The map above outlines these plans, piece by piece, showing why we urgently need your donation now.

Please help us provide the peace these bears deserve – and claim your piece of history in the making.

This comes as a reminder to all of us that one person such as Jill Robinson (Founder of Animals Asia) can and do make a difference and that change can happen and quickly when others join in to help.
