Splendid viewing of Humpback whales and our new resident the Eaglet!

Our sightings today: Humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, Harbour seals and pups++, Bald Eagles, Belted King Fishers, Black Oyster Catchers, Cassin’s Auklets, Red-neck Phalaropes and Rhinoceros Auklets. Today’s tour was all about shutting down the engines and letting nature come to us. This often creates the opportunity to not only see the whale blows but to hear the sounds of these gentle giants surfacing and releasing their breath. We recognised at least two of the Humpbacks this morning and took delight in seeing the flukes rise high to the sky as they prepared for a deep dive. Once again we saw our new resident, the Eaglet sitting in a nest, perhaps eagerly awaiting its next feed. Today we were gifted with what felt like four seasons in one tour. We headed out in fairly thick fog which makes for an eerie but mystical voyage. Light rain, little wind then glorious sunshine followed offering us a breathtaking scene of glassy blue seas guarded by the mountainous backdrop that surrounded us. It is a splendid feeling being dwarfed by the beauty of Mother Nature.
