Cetaceans on a Sunny Day

'What didn't we see today?' was the question our guests returned with, after their tour.

We had bow riding Pacific White-sided dolphins, foraging Dall's porpoises, feasting Humpbacks and resting Orca. It was a truly remarkable day on the water.

The fog had cleared by the time our afternoon tour began giving us full visibility to explore the area and search for wildlife. There were three pods of Orca in the area today, A42, A35 and A73. Their behaviour showed signs of resting which is touching to observe. The whales line up, side by side in close proximity to eachother. They surface together, their breath synchronized and movements somewhat lethargic. Time seems to slow right down and the environment quietens ever so slightly.

Today the Humpbacks were feeding, bringing their wide mouths to the surface, showing us other body parts we don't always see. The Stellar Sea lions were out and about, along with the Harbour seals that lounged in the sun on seaweed covered rocks.

Bald Eagles dried their wings while Belted King fishers foraged on the shoreline, dipping and rising with a flight pattern only belonging to this beautiful bird.

It was a hot day in land but out on the ocean was a subtle breeze that kept everyone cool and comfortable while they enjoyed this abundantly rich coastal region.
