A Full Day on the Water with Wildlife Galore

We had a three-tour day today and as one would imagine it was filled with wildlife encounters which included Orca on every tour.

The three family groups that have established themselves in this region covered a fair bit of ground but stayed within our reach. At times the Orca traveled close to shore in their tight family groups.
Even when the fog was thick they were located, travelling west along Vancouver Island, then crossing over to forage beside the islands that neighbour Alert Bay.

In addition to the Orca were delightful scenes of Humpback whales who also traveled and foraged. At one time four to six whales were grouped together, not traveling or foraging, not resting or feeding. It seemed the whales were socializing. At times they surfaced all together and side by side synchronizing their deep dive and literally frolicking in the sea.

Birds were numerous out on the ocean showing signs that food was readily available. Fog started the day and ended the day with glorious sunshine and warmth in between. Family groups of tourists joined us today so children as young as eight had the privilege of experiencing the many wonders of the wild in this Northern Vancouver region.
