Another Beautiful Day on the Water!
What a treat to be out on the water on a warm, sunny afternoon with lightly cloudy skies and flat, calm conditions!
Cruising away from the Alert Bay dock south along Johnstone Strait, the MV Seasmoke headed for Weynton Passage, where passengers had the thrill of watching fast-swimming Dall’s Porpoises bow riding alongside. Rhinoceros auklets were also active in the Passage, as well as in Blackfish Sound. Guillemots were spotted on this trip too.
Then an old friend was seen, identified as Argonaut, a Humpback that visits our waters every year and stays for a good while. Joined by another Humpback the two seemed to be enjoying a playful time, tail slapping and riding the strong ocean current. What fun to watch!
Also in Weynton Passage an adult bald eagle was seen high up in its huge nest. Sometimes brown juveniles, born in early spring are spotted nearby.
Upon their return our passengers said how much they enjoyed their day out and were so pleased to be out on the water and see so much activity. Another beautiful trip in this very special part of the world.
