Numerous Social Humpbacks!
The MV Seasmoke set off under cloudy skies that threatened rain, and while it rained all around the boat and our passengers, they were somehow spared a downpour and just experienced a very slight bit of rain on the return. Just a light wind, and calm conditions on the water made for a delightful trip.
Our guests were absolutely thrilled with today’s sightings and said the tour exceeded their expectations. Numerous Humpbacks, at least five, were present at Egeria Shoal and Bold Head. Two more were sighted in the Plumper Islands and when our skipper stopped the boat to observe these stupendous mammals, the whales came right up to the boat to visit!
Guests were also privileged to view a juvenile Bald eagle high up in its nest, testing out its wings as if getting ready for a flight! These juveniles are differentiated from their parents by their mottled brown feathers that turn black and white at maturity.
As the Seasmoke meandered through the Stephanson group of islands, the boat came upon Harbour seals resting on small islets, and again found them swimming here and there among the lovely Pearse Islands.
Guests who had gone out with us before commented that it was truly an unforgettable trip today and we thank all our passengers for their enthusiasm and appreciation of the bountiful nature so close at hand.
