It Was a Killer Day!

Our skipper Jon was so excited by all the action witnessed today, that he called into the office before the trip was over to give a verbal report of what passengers saw. Dall’s porpoises were playing with the boat, near Stubbs Island when they were ambushed by a group of four transient (Biggs) Orca. Within view from the boat, a porpoise was rendered immobile by one of the huge males, that leapt fully out of the water, and it looked as if this was going to be dinner!

Earlier, these Biggs were sighted at Weynton Island, but not only them, but Northern Residents were spotted near Vancouver Island south of Cracroft Point. Our guests were there to observe a Pacific white-sided dolphin, playful like the porpoises, harass these fish hunting Orca.

It was another trifecta day, with the next species of whale being the stately Humpback. There were two spotted foraging near Stubbs Island, and everyone looked on as they dove down deep, displaying their amazing flukes.

The Stephanson Islands and Weynton Passage were the place to see both birds and Harbour seals - Bald eagles, Black Oystercatchers, Common Murres, the Red Necked Phalarope and Rhinoceros Auklet were spending time in the rocky islets and on the water.

A super thrilling day for all aboard the MV Seasmoke! Nature in action; unplanned and unparallel.
