Thrilling Tour for First Time Whale Watchers

Guests today were so pleased to see the majestic Humpback whales out and about in Blackfish Sound near Stubbs Island. In a rare grouping, four were quite close together foraging around for food - the little krill and small fish they devour daily. This made for an excellent photo op - with many audible ‘blow’s, and dives both shallow and deep - tails and humped backs belonging to these stately and gracious mammals.

MV Seasmoke passengers went out with a bit of wind today, but the slightly choppy seas did not dampen the enthusiasm or experience of everyone on board, and it certainly didn’t keep the whales away, as our Northern Resident “I”s were spotted out in their family groupings. Today, they were chasing salmon in front of Telegraph Cove - identified as the I15s and I4s. See the great photos our skipper Jon took below!

The Stephanson group of Islands seems to be the favourite home of Harbour seals, that in a variety of colours were seen lounging on the rocks and in the water. Bald eagles, with their recognizable white feathered heads and black bodies were keeping them company from their lofty perches, and overseeing their domain.

A wonderful afternoon once again for those lucky enough to get out on the water in this stunning region full of sea life!
