Orca everywhere! - Aug 16 Trip Report
Been some amazing days out on the water lately. Some foggy days, but still amazing. It’s getting to be the time of the year when the lighting during the morning tours is just spectacular! Beautiful colors as the morning wakes up.
We started the morning with some reports of 100+ dolphins heading up blackfish, so we zipped over there to try to catch them before they disappeared. We floated and listened, and promptly got distracted by humpbacks and dalls porpoise. While we were listening for splashing or breathing of whales in the fog, one of our guests heard a plethora of medium sized blows. A sure sign of orca!!
Soon, emerging from the fog, an incredible number of orca started showing up. We never found those 100+ dolphins, but we were sure lucky to find all those orca. As the fog came and went, we could see more and more northern resident killer whales in the distance. Overnight, a few matrilines from the G clan came into our waters, and the A clan residents that have been hanging around joined the party! Throughout the day, we ended ups seeing A50s, A54s, I4s, I65, and I27. In total, 30+ Orca hanging around. Of course we had plenty of humpbacks to distract us from the orca as well as the beautiful landscapes the fog created.
