Transient & Resident Orcas, and a Black Bear

The sun shone all day and the straits were full of whales. SV Tuan headed off early this afternoon and came upon a Black Bear strolling along the beach and soon after some transient Orcas. We followed them along until they met up with another group of transients bumping the number of animals up to 9 in total. They were headed in the opposite direction of the oncoming resident Orcas so we stopped, shut down the engine and were soon surrounded by 17 residents chasing salmon all over the place. The vocals were fantastic and the sea was an aquamarine blue in amongst the rip tide and whirlpools. There wasn't a breath of wind in the air until we were almost home and had finished our afternoon tea.
