Today’s tour was a real treat with orca sightings early in the tour and wind enough to sail quietly along with them. We first encountered the orcas as they made their way west in Johnstone Strait, they were spread out: the A34’s and A12 with the A36 brothers A37 & A46. Passengers enjoyed listening to the A Clan calls via our trailing hydrophone as we sailed along, tacking back and forth; it was a wonderful experience for all onboard. At the time of our viewing the orcas were observed foraging, spy-hopping and breaching. They continued west past Blinkhorn where they foraged intently before turning back to the east and we observed as they went by and then traveled home via the beautiful island waterways of the Plumper Islands that were sparkling in the sunshine. Other sightings today included: Stellar Sea Lions swimming, Dall’s Porpoises, Harbour Seals, Rhinoceros Auklets, Common Murres, Belted Kingfishers, Mew and Herring Gulls and Bald Eagles.
