Our 2011 season is underway and our first outing was on June 6th.
Our sightings have included Minke Whales, Dalls Porpoises, Mink, River Otters, Harbour Seals, Stellar Sea Lions, Bald Eagles and Eaglets in their nests. On one tour we were fortunate to observe a Bald Eagle feeding on a dead octopus that it had dragged up on a shoreline and beside it was a Turkey Vulture attempting to share in the meal by making itself larger than life with its wings spread wide. It was a once in a lifetime sighting as Turkey Vultures are not often seen in our area and it was exciting to view and observe the interaction between the two birds. On another tour a sighting of a Minke Whale was fabulous when Eclispe (identified by markings on its right side) surfaced very near to the side of the boat.

Today, June 22 we enjoyed viewing two Humpback Whales in Blackfish Sound, Pacific White-sided Dolphins and several small groups of Dall's Porpoises; an Eaglet was also sighted in one of the Eagle nests as we passed by. Since early June we have noticed an increasing number of Rhinoceros Auklets arrive as more herring make their way into the area. Pigeon Guillemots and White-winged Scoters were also seen today.
