It was a fabulous day for viewing cetaceans despite the wet weather. Humpback Whales were sighted early in the tour and while viewing them four were countered travelling together heading west in Mitchell Bay. A juvenile Grey Whale was sighted close by and later a Minke Whale followed by the sighting of two more humpback whales. At that point a group of three humpback whales returned from Mitchell Bay and headed west while two more were sighted in Blackfish Sound and two others were reported further east. It was very difficult keeping track of their movements but it was believed that 7-8 were in the region today. On the way home we had a nice encounter with 30+ Pacific White-sided dolphins some of whom joined us briefly at the bow of the boat. Other sightings today included: harbour seals, dalls porpoises, rhinoceros auklets, pigeon guillemots, red-necked phalaropes, mew, california and herring gulls.
