Today was a day of humpback whale watching while sailing with at least 8 humpback whales being reported in the area. Our first sighting of one of them was in Weynton Passage with several more sighted in Blackfish Sound and Bold Head and on the way home we observed two more, one of whom we observed was lunge feeding through a large herring ball with sea birds gathered and feeding as well! Other sightings today included: dall’s porpoises, stellar sea lions, harbour seals, rhinoceros auklets, common murre, red-necked phalaropes, california, mew and glaucous-winged gulls, bald eagles and a newly fledged eaglet, black turnstones, fork-tailed storm-petrals and pigeon guillemots.
