Magnificent Humpback Whales!
It was a beautiful day and while fog lingered late this morning, it was wonderful sitting out on deck with the sun shining bright looking outwards at the gorgeous seascape surrounding us. We enjoyed viewing numerous humpback whales (including one called 'Argonaut') who were working their way through Weynton Passage in wide circles and out into Johnstone Strait in the flooding current. The acoustic sounds that we heard were a mix of common murres and gulls calling, stellar sea-lions as well the loud blows of the humpback whales that punctuated the air through all other sounds, it was fabulous listening even when the fog obscured the scene then cleared, time and again! We observed the whales lunge feeding through herring balls and at one time three whales were seen working back and forth over an area where gulls and murres had gathered, we also saw a stellar sea-lion eating a fish. As we cruised through island waterways on our way home we so appreciated the quiet beauty and special moments of our viewing, all of us mesmerized by the breathtaking beauty that we saw today!
