The Amazing Grace of Humpback Whales ~ A big thank you to Deborah who sang this hymn in the presence of humpback whales while on board S.V. Tuan, June 30th, 2015. Our viewing today was just that ~ Amazing Grace!
A truly inspiring day with yet another lovely group of people meeting each other from different countries (and continents) and sharing stories while walking through each other's lives. A humpback whale was suddenly surfacing before us in full glory and close, an encounter of gentle beauty, grace and wonder! The magnificence of the solo swimmer nearby, foraging, diving deep and surfacing to inhale; a pattern repeated time and again. It was breathtaking and mesmerizing to sit back and allow the present moment be, just that! Other humpback whales were reported further down in Blackfish Sound but we lingered with the lovely humpback whale that we identified as Argonaut and then commenced to meander quietly through some tranquil waters of the Plumper Islands, partaking of beautiful sights and sounds, of glistening bull kelp forests, bald eagle nests and eagles sitting atop tall trees looking 'outwards and over the ocean', of belted kingfishers flitting back and forth with their signature prehistoric high-pitched calls and as a passenger mentioned early on in the tour, "it was heaven on earth out there today and peaceful"! Also seen: rhinoceros auklets, common murres, stellar sea lions, harbour seals and dall's porpoises. Too engrossed with story telling, we were at the dock before we knew it with so many, heartfelt moments shared.
