A blustery day with numerous Orca sightings!

Today's Sightings: Northern Resident Orcas, Humpback Whales,  Steller Sea Lions ++, Harbour Seals, Rhinoceros and Cassin's Auklets, Common Murres, Red-Necked Phalaropes, Bald Eagles, Belted Kingfishers, a Great Blue Heron and Gull species.

It was a windy day and choppy seas prevailed while numerous Resident Orcas were in the area and travelling towards Johnstone Strait! Our first sighting of them was an exciting one when Orcas were seen off Bold Head. They were the A23s and A25s and with our hydrophone deployed, we were able to listen to some A-Clan vocalizations. A46 was identified with other orcas nearby who were later confirmed to be the A34s. Breaching and spy-hopping activity was observed. Other orcas travelling back in through Blackfish Sound were the A30s while the I15s travelled in through Weynton Passage.

While the weather remained blustery throughout, Humpback Whales, Slash and her calf were observed nearby and several other Humpback Whale blows were also seen. There was a lot of wildlife in the area and numerous bait balls with birds galore feeding!
