Orcas, Humpback whales and bow riding porpoises!
Our sightings today: Resident Orcas, two Humpback whales, Dall's porpoises, Harbour seals and pups+++, a Stellar sea lion, Rhinoceros Auklets, Cassin's Auklets, Bald Eagles, Belted Kingfishers and Western Grebe's. It was magic in the making when we headed out on tour this afternoon. A report of Resident Orcas down in Blackney Passage made it all the more exciting but before seeing Orcas it came as a great surprise to encounter a Humpback whale in passing! We found the A30's at Blackney Passage and enjoyed excellent viewing of them as they rested while waiting for the current to slacken. In the same area we observed a second Humpback whale feeding in the current and watching its diving sequence with the Orcas nearby was simply superb! Our journey home via numerous scenic waterways was awe-inspiring, we could not ask for more, but still to follow was the viewing of a young Eaglet in its nest and bow (and stern) riding Dall's porpoises!
