Humpback whales and feasting Bald Eagles!

Our sightings today: Humpback whales, Harbour seals and pups+++, Dall's porpoises, Rhinoceros Auklets, Bald Eagles++, Red-necked Phalaropes, Pigeon Guillemots and Belted Kingfishers. The weather was warm and sunny and the day a glorious one! We enjoyed some wonderful viewing of two Humpback whales, one of which was Black Pearl, a whale who has been coming to the area to feed for a number of summers. It is always heartfelt and pleasing for many of us in the industry to acknowledge and celebrate those individual whales who return to feed each summer! In saying that, it was a special and timely viewing of Black Pearl that we enjoyed today and reminded us that the return of the Humpback Whales is something that we should not take for granted but truly appreciate and celebrate. A large gathering of Bald Eagles was also of great interest, we observed them feeding on a large bait ball and watched as many of them landed on a rocky outcrop to rest. Watching the eagles swoop and dive with precision timing towards the surface of the water to grasp at the small fish with their talons was a wonderful sight indeed!

Thank you Robin Quirk for the awesome photos!
