The feeding frenzy continues!
Sightings: Humpback whales++, Dall's porpoises, Harbour seals, Stellar sea lions, 2 Black-tailed deer, Bald Eagles and one Eaglet in a nest, Belted Kingfishers, Red-necked Phalaropes, Rhinoceros Auklets, Cassin's Auklets, Common Murres, Black Turnstones, Black Oyster Catchers and Gull species. It was an amazing day with so much to see on each of our tours. The day belonged to the Humpback whales for there were several in the area and those included sightings of Black Pearl, Argonaut, Conger, Ripple and Guardian. It is always a joy to see Guardian with her full white fluke as depicted on one of the photo's making her easily recognizable. There was excellent viewing of both trap and lunge feeding on the morning tour while the afternoon and early evening tours had equally exciting viewing of humpback whales feeding on herring balls with sea birds galore in the mix of the feeding frenzy! It was a truly remarkable day made so by increasing quantities of food arriving into the area in the form of small schooling fish enabling a myriad of big and small species to all feed upon!
Photo's taken by Robin Quirk ~Please note, 2 images, one of a dive and one of trap feeding have been compiled into a series to show the sequence of the whale's movement.
