Dynamic day with Orca, Humpbacks and feasting birds
We had a fickle North Westerly wind blowing this morning, but it did not stop us from going on an adventure and finding whales.
A small group of Orca were seen travelling West in Johnstone Strait; they were the A42's, the same orcas we sighted yesterday. One large male dorsal fin sliced through the choppy water, his blow rapidly lost as the wind dispersed it quickly.
Humpback whales were seen foraging and travelling and from a distance we noticed a few bait balls attracting numerous Gulls, Rhinoceros Auklets and Common Murres which actively all feasted on small schooling fish.
We were astonished by the number of Harbour Seal pups that were seen lounging on the seaweed covered rocks. One seal pup we observed feeding on its mother's milk but by now most would be weaned from their mothers and foraging independently.
Even though rain clouds hung heavily over the surrounding mountains, the wind kept them at bay. It was an exciting day on the water.
