Bigg's (Transient) Orcas on the move!

It was a great day to be out on the water; the sea was glassy calm and beckoned us to go out and explore.

Thanks to a local boat operator reporting to ours, the sightings of Biggs (Transient) Orcas, the T069D's, three orcas in total, came soon after we left the dock at Alder Bay this morning. The timing could not have been better, and we were happily rewarded with some quality viewing of the orcas as they made their way steadily to the west on the north side of Pearse and Cormorants Island(s) in Cormorant Channel.

Leaving the orcas, we made our way back towards Blackfish Sound and were excited and delighted to encounter three Humpback whales in the vicinity of Donegal and Bold Head(s), all of them were foraging back and forth between the two landmarks.

Other species included Harbour seals hauled out and resting on kelp covered rocky islets. Rhinoceros Auklets, Red-necked Phalaropes, Common Murres and Bald Eagles were plentiful today, and we also observed Dall's porpoises foraging in Weynton Passage on our way home.

Brilliant and beautiful our day turned out to be and the weather was just fine!
