The Perfect Day!
Our tour today will not easily be forgotten, especially for the two boys onboard who loved sitting in the front seat of our boat, they were curious and watchful and not wanting to miss seeing anything that was moving in the water.
We began our tour with a light wind blowing under a silvery blue sky and an ocean that was blue and sparkling. We stopped the boat often and drifted in the current with our engine off and gazed out at the exquisite beauty that unfolded around us.
While we travel these waters almost daily in the summertime we never tire because every single tour is so different from any other tour we have taken before. It was surprising and perfect timing when we found Orcas approaching the Western Boundary of the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. We were thrilled at being able to watch while they foraged and travelled west along the Vancouver Island shoreline prior to crossing over to Cracroft Point.
Imagine if you can, seeing several species swimming in wide circles in the flooding current, all together and all around us! It was unbelievable to view a Humpback whale in the mix and Pacific White-sided dolphins as well! The dolphins appeared to be harassing the orcas as they often do in pesky play while the orcas took to taking long deep dives in an attempt to forage away from the smaller dolphins who only wanted to play.
We believe the orcas we saw were some of the A30's (likely A54's), the A35's and A73 (Springer) with her off-spring. Listening to their beautiful A-Clan calls via the hydrophone was superb! As well today we saw in total three Humpback whales, Harbour seals, Pacific White-sided dolphins+, Dall's porpoises++, Bald Eagles, several Gull species and Rhinoceros Auklets.
A passenger on board today, wrote in our guest book "The Perfect Day. We got to see everything, my kids, mother and I had the best time. Jon was full of wonderful information. Thank you!"
