A Lively Day
Every day on the water, even though in the same area, is so incredibly different which keeps us on our toes, and our eyes and ears alert.
The vessels that were out braving the lively northwest wind that blew, searched in all directions looking for the resident Orcas we were with yesterday. MV Seasmoke with skipper Jon decided to look out towards the West and did a search pattern from Lizard Point on Malcolm Island, out to the Foster and Penfold Islands, and back to the bucking bronco of Bold Head. As we traveled white caps started to form and the wind gradually picked it and after watching some Humpback activity, it was time to head into more sheltered waters.
The highlights from today’s tour consisted of another wonderful visit by Pacific White-sided Dolphins. They were in a curious and playful mood which delighted our guests, particularly the younger ones. No matter how slow and gentle we traveled, trying to get from A to B, they wanted to ride in our wake. They really do know how to live life to the fullest, these cetaceans of the sea.
We were surprised to see our ever growing group of Stellar sea lions take up completely new real-estate. Instead of being to the east of our eagles nest, they had moved to the western point of the Plumper Islands. We could not help but wonder if perhaps researchers had been there or they were disturbed by something else. They stood out like lanterns, their bright cream coloured bodies, lit up by sunshine and natural lively contrast against the basalt rock.
Although the wind challenged us today and livened the ocean we traveled on, our adventurous group of guests took in all the beauty and appreciated our wonderful wildlife we are so fortunate to have in our backyard.
