An Incredible Jam Packed Adventure

This morning we awakened to rain gently falling but by mid morning the showers had cleared and the day began to brighten and our passengers were all eager to embark on their tour.

From the very beginning there was so much to see, and often at times, there was activity happening on either side of the boat, with different species being observed in all directions.

We had some wonderful viewing of Bald Eagles sitting high in tree tops and of Harbour seals hauled out and shortly after we were watching Resident orcas make their way west in Blackfish Sound. We had some fabulous viewing of the A54’s (and later A50’s) foraging nearby and with our engines off and hydrophone deployed, we were able to listen to their beautiful A-Clan calls. The vocalizations never cease to amaze anyone fortunate enough to hear them and long afterwards, they can even be heard in our dreams!

At one point we saw two Humpback whales (and several in the distance), Orcas and even a Stellar Sea Lion feeding in close proximity to one another. Our skipper Jon and several passengers captured some brilliant photos of the amazing spectacle as the Sea Lion caught and devoured a very large salmon near to our boat.

There were many highlights on the tour, including seeing Dall’s porpoises as well, but the last one was possibly the most exciting when we encountered some 80-100 + Pacific White-sided dolphins actively feeding in Johnstone Strait. Many were seen leaping clear out of the water, seemingly bumping into each other in the process! The sounds of them splashing back and forth with their fluid and graceful movements while swimming together in such a large group was an incredible sight to witness. Seeing them bow-riding and swimming in our wake, sent us all ‘over the moon’ with joy!
