The Magic Days Of Fall
There are the magic days of fall that all of us love and today was surely one of those where the look and feel of Fall was everywhere that nature was.
On land it was seen in the large intricate webs that spiders spin seemingly overnight, webs that we had barely noticed before but this morning there they were, freshly spun in window and door-way frames and on branches and bushes glistening from dew and the dampness of a heavy fog that hug like a blanket across the Bay for quite awhile this morning.
On our tour this afternoon we sensed the change, the air felt fresh and enticing in a gentle sort of way especially when the sun began to shine in earnest. Images of clearing fog across the water with islands poking through the fog were ever changing. There were wisps that drifted low and long that came and then quite magically they disappeared.
With the sea so calm Humpback whales were clearly visible from a distance away and we were thrilled to find three of them foraging near Bold Head, another we saw at Weynton Island and one from a distance we could see was pectoral slapping near Donegal Head. There were some bait balls in the area where the Humpback whales were feeding, a sign to us that their food source was still flowing in the waters we toured.
Other sightings today were Dall's porpoises, Stellar Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, Rhinoceros Auklets and Harbour Seals, one of which was seen eating an octopus! There was also a lovely surprise sighting was of a Black Bear foraging along a beach at low tide.
We all enjoyed the beautiful sights and sounds of Fall today, nature’s magic was surely in the air and all around.
