The Time Just Flew By!

A guest told us after today’s trip that there was so much to see, the time just flew by! A light breeze from the northwest was blowing when guests departed the Alert Bay dock on today’s tour, not knowing they would see an incredible myriad of sea life on their afternoon adventure.

To start, just as the boat was cruising past Alder Bay, and out in Johnstone Strait, the playful Dall’s porpoises came close, riding in the wake of the MV Seasmoke.

Soon, how thrilled everyone was to see the Northern Resident Orca, with their distinctive pointed black dorsal fins in nearby waters - travelling from Egeria Shoal to the Plumper Islands. Skipper Jon identified about six or more from the G group. As the boat cruised into the Plumpers, Humpbacks showed up too and were foraging around, making it an especially exciting day. Guests commented that there was so much activity, when the skipper stopped the boat so everyone would have a chance to watch both whales groups, they didn’t know in which direction to look!

A young girl on board was delighted to see Harbour seals with their pups, and passengers commented they also saw Stellar sea lions. Then, on the return, Orca turned up in Weynton Passage, this time the I 4’s. It was estimated there were roughly eight in this group.

Certainly a tour to remember on a beautiful sunlit day, when it seems all the sea life came out to play!
