Whales & Sails
It is always nice to spend the whole day on the water which is exactly what we did today. We left early and encountered a large group of Killer Whales a short distance from Alert Bay. We recognized some individuals but others were from some of the less common G and I pods that we only occasionally see in this area. They came to a full stop at one point, made some nice vocalizations and rested on the surface a bit. It was a beautiful multi-sensory experience, listening to their blows, and calls, and seeing them right in front of us. We then continued on down the strait with all 25 or so of them and put up the sails once a light breeze picked up. All afternoon the sun shone and the whales continued east.
