It was a day of interest and intrigue. As we headed into Blackfish Sound this morning the fog drifted lower, yet ahead of this, several Dall’s Porpoises joined us at the bow of the boat, darting back and forth. It was wonderful to see them close and fun for everyone onboard. When a fisherman reported seeing orcas in the fog at Lizard Point we headed in that direction. The fog was clearing quickly and soon the Queen Charlotte Strait was open before us. We found the orcas foraging extensively at Lizard Point, they were well spread out. A12 and A37 were foraging in close proximity together while A32 & A46 were foraging back and forth together. At the time of our viewing, passengers enjoyed sailing quietly with them, ecolation was heard via the trailing hydrophone but there were no vocals. As we headed back, a Humpback Whale was sighted at the Plumper Islands in Weynton Passage, it was a surprise ending to a wonderful day of viewing. Other species also seen were: Stellar Sea Lions, Harbour Seals, Bald Eagles fishing, in flight and in the trees, Rhinoceros Aucklets, Red-Necked Phalaropes, Pigeon Guillemots, Black Oystercatchers and Black Turnstones.
