Today we enjoyed another lovely day on the water viewing numerous cetaceans and birds. Early on in the tour passengers could easily see the blow of a large Humpback Whale in the far distance while a smaller blow was observed closer, that of a juvenile Grey Whale. It was likely the same one that we had seen yesterday and it was exciting to observe as this single young whale foraged along close to the shoreline. After leaving the grey whale we encountered a humpback whale traveling to the west, it had been earlier identified as ‘Horizon’ and a second large humpback whale was sighted in Weynton Passage identified as ‘Stripe’. Shortly after this a third Humpback whale was reported in Blackney Passage and we sighted a fourth one at Lewis Point. The lighting was perfect for seeing the blows and with the day warming up nicely, the view-scape of Humpback Whales near and far was fabulous. We toured amongst the island waterways enjoying the scenery and wildlife and on the way home we sighted a humpback travelling east towards Weynton Passage in the flood current, we believed this to be 'Horizon' who we had sighted earlier in the tour. Other sightings today included: Dall’s Porpoises feeding and ‘rooster-tailing’, Harbour Seals hauled out, a Steller Sea Lion, Rhinoceros Auklets, Pigeon Guillemots, Harlequin Ducks, Oyster Catchers, Belted Kingfishers, Bald Eagles and four eaglets in their nests, Mew and Herring Gulls.
